Gyrocopter crash claims life of White River man

The gyrocopter piloted by Delon du Plessis crashed at Ashanti lodge about 30km from Lephalale, on the Thabazimbi road.

Police say pilot Delon du Plessis (46) and passenger Ernst Steenkamp died on the scene after the gyrocopter hit a tree before it fell down to the ground and burst into flames, killing both pilot and passenger.  According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto there would be an inquest into the incident and that the Civil Aviation Authority would investigate the cause of the accident.

Du Plessis was busy on a project at Medupi Power Station where he worked as an engineer.  Family and friends were in shock today.
