About 200 learners of Jabulani Primary School will be warm and proud this winter thanks to the generosity of Standard Bank’s corporate social investment (CSI) division and the bank’s graduate programme.
The bank’s CSI division partnered with Uplands Outreach to deliver school uniforms and various other materials.
The items were received with song, dance and enormous gratitude.
Jabulani Primary is located on the Kruger National Park border. School principal, Beauty Mashego, built it from scratch in 1988.
Mashego is a graduate of the School Leaders for Excellence Programme at Uplands Outreach, and is participating in the Standard Bank teacher development programme, along with three of her teachers.
The bank’s teacher development initiative at Uplands Outreach is now in its second year.
It aims to boost numeracy, literacy and pedagogy in foundation and intermediate phase teachers in the Insikazi School Circuit.
Uplands Outreach director, Nicky de Bruyn said they were thrilled to be in partnership with Standard Bank and the Insikazi circuit. “As a united team, we can achieve exceptional results. We give thanks to the bank for its generous support as we continue moving forward together,” she said.
Guest speakers on the day, Susan Dube (Standard Bank), Mandrew Nyambi (Insikazi School circuit manager, DoE) and principal Mashego agreed, “It is only when we build a strong foundation of education together – corporate South Africa, government, parents, teachers, community and all young future leaders of our country – that we can truly move forward as a great and prosperous nation.”
